Sleeping Pilots
04:02
|
|||
Man, I got a feeling tonight
In the middle of a red-hot spotlight, but you know
It took my breath away
Banged my head against an ordinary day
People come rattling around, empty graves just holes in the ground
The troubles fly on the wind, sleeping pilots would say
First you set it, and then you forget it, I’m sleeping my troubles away
Look who got married today
While your fingers were getting carried away, but you see
It got me on my feet
Bag of bones make a tiny heart beat
Airplanes will fall from the skies, rock the cradle with soft lullabies
The troubles fly on the wind, sleeping pilots would say
First you set it, and then you forget it, I’m sleeping my troubles away

Fancy Pants
03:51
|
|||
I'm gonna go out dancin'
Feel like some sweet romancin'
Just a little fancy pantsin'
With my baby!
We're flyin' all our colors,
Who cares what all the others
Say as we rule the dance floor?
Hail my baby!
C'mon now it won't be long
The band's playing my favorite song
Beats 'n' melodies are strong
Harmonies drop headlong
The singer's voice is full of light
The rhythm section's sounding tight
The guitars are flying outta sight
This music's gonna blow your mind tonight!
Tonight I'll be her Holy Diver,
An Interior Designer
Operating deep inside her mind
She's my baby!
In the club, the bass is jumpin'
You know my heart is thumpin'
Every time she steps beside me!
Watch my baby!]
Lead me, tease me, read & write me,
Your intersections so excite me,
My funkalicious Aphrodite
That's my baby!
We could dance like this forever,
Up down, left right, back to center,
Equal opposites together.
Love my baby!
Be all mine! Be all mine!
Until the end of time!
C'mon now it won't be long
The band's playin' my favorite song
Beats 'n' melodies are strong
Harmonies drop headlong
The singer's voice is full of light
The rhythm section's sounding tight
The guitars are flying outta sight
This music's gonna blow your mind tonight!

Eleven Sixteen
04:34
|
|||
Just like the Word to the Mother, there's no other
Way to describe what we mean to each other
When the past and the present and the future collide,
Everything that matters is on the inside.
Slow down, wake up, take a look at yourself!
You got to pay attention to your spiritual health
Before the Man throws a monkeywrench into the machine
And the clocktower rings at 11:16.
Yeah! The clock says Eleven Sixteen!
It's Eleven Sixteen if you know what I mean.
Talkin' 'bout Eleven Sixteen.
Check out my boy Tiberius, he's fuckin' serious,
Troddin' down Rome in a manner most imperious,
And there's Pizarro the Conquistador,
Puts away the Inca and locks the door.
But then another door opens for Al Capone,
They release him from the Rock and let him go home
While the Germans firebomb Madrid to smithereens
All coming down on 11/16.
Yeah! The date is Eleven Sixteen!
It's Eleven Sixteen if you know what I mean.
Talkin' 'bout Eleven Sixteen.
Open your mind, who knows what you may find on the inside?
Rap tippy tippy tippy tap with the drummer,
And all comers dancing in the summer
Sunshine, rain, wind, fire and ice,
Rockin' to a miracle of Rare Device
When the sound of a trumpet comes from the sky,
The fallen angel choir is singing on high
With the devil keeping time on the tambourine,
Playing that beat in 11/16.
Yeah! The count is Eleven Sixteen!
It's Eleven Sixteen if you know what I mean.
You know it's Eleven Sixteen.
Open the door, now, open the door,
Stop the wars and just open the doors of
Perception, and without exception
The offshore voyage is a new direction
Aligned in spirit with the quest to find the
Secret inside passage to Umbilical Mind
Vibrating at the harmonic mean!
And it all goes back to 11/16.
Yeah! You know it's Eleven Sixteen!
It's Eleven Sixteen if you know what I mean.
You know it's Eleven Sixteen.
Darkness meets light and the meanings ignite on the inside!
As it is written:
If the first fruit is Holy,
The love is also Holy!
And if the root is Holy,
The branches all are Holy!
It's Eleven Sixteen if you know what I mean.
You know it's Eleven Sixteen.
It's Eleven Sixteen now.
You know it's Eleven Sixteen.

House On Fire
03:30
|
|||
There you go again, my everlasting friend
Did you wake the neighborhood with your poison pen?
Only birds on the wire can see that we’re not the same
I set this house on fire, but then you fanned the flames
Words will never fail you when you’re talking in your sleep
I’ve got spies for miles and treasure buried deep
Though I’m weary and tired, I know your real name
I set this house on fire but then you fanned the flames
I set this house on fire but then you fanned the flames
One day I pray the rain will come wash this away
And then I’ll build my empire back up from the ashes
Though I’m weary and tired, I know your real name
I set this house on fire but then you fanned the flames
I set this house on fire but then you fanned the flames

Kitchen Table
03:57
|
|||
The drop-leaf was deeply stained with spilled red wine
From those gatherings at holidays and family times
That the kitchen table opened wide for
Prodigals' embrace…
The bite marks around the skirt were from her Dad
When the boy was just 10 years old and he got mad
Because Grandpa was on the juice and dropped the birthday cake….
And broke all the plates
The table was made from a tree
The blade can carve it with ease
And every mark that you see
Is family history
Scratches up and down the legs from collar chains
Of the decades of family dogs and growing pains
As the puppies became the sires and
Faced the reaper's blade…
A stretcher down near the floor tells the tale
That legs may suddenly collapse and hearts can fail!
The table was set for six but there were only five…
Of them alive…
Forks and knives and fountain pens left their marks
On the broad oaken table top like lingering sparks
Of the fire of ongoing life that
Caught and burned and spread…
Growing children make a mess, you know it's true,
Brother sister mother father make a Brunswick stew
And every slippage leaves a tell-tale flaw like crumbs of broken bread…
And songs of the dead…
The table was made from a tree
The blade can carve it with ease
And every mark that you see
Is family history

Shareholders
02:51
|
|||
Once I got a dollar, I took the train to New York City
They fixed me up a bed on the factory floor
I made it back to Levittown for church every Sunday
Banging on a can all the way to California
And leaving blank spaces where the bad words should go
In the hot Georgia sun I left it behind
And the night fell so quickly I started to cry
The radio was playing a song from long ago
Some things I will never understand
Some folks I don’t care to know
I think I’ll stay at home and watch my favorite show tonight
The stars are so pretty I could grab ‘em in my hand
And shoot out the moon with my Smith & Wesson
And everything I had and all I ever worked for
Now belongs to the shareholders and welfare queens
Except this solid ground, not this time around
And the night fell so quickly I started to cry
The radio was playing a song from long ago
Some things I will never understand
Some folks I don’t care to know

Clown Car Pileup
04:10
|
|||
Approaching blind curves staring straight into the sun
Before today was just a harmless bit of fun
Before today was just a harmless bit of fun
Two giant shoes upon the gas thirty more inside
Who can spot danger with a pie between the eyes?
Who can spot danger with a pie between the eyes?
But they’re laughing all the while
It’s just about a mile up the road
Clown car pileup!
Confusion shrieking into helium balloons
Vague distant memories from clown car driving school
Vague distant memories from clown car driving school
Whose big idea to put two big tops in this town?
It’s hard enough for one clown car to get around
Frozen in time: a painted frown turned upside down
But they’re laughing all the while
It’s just about a mile up the road
Clown car pileup!
